I got a sneak-peak into the Olympic Athletes Village today... !! A friend (Elisabeth) who works there was able to take friends and family on a tour and it was to my surprise, totally awesome.
First we had to be body-scanned, followed by full pat-down and retina-scan (Elisabeth tried to sneak in a bicyle seatpost but was busted since they have lots of experience with athletes trying to smuggle 'roids in the tube...?).
After all that we had free reign to party with the mascotts! I admit when I saw them I was so excited that had I been alone I would have been running them down! I did have to throw some elbows at some kids who were totally hogging their attention.
We got to see where they would eat, sleep, workout, and of course get their vitamin drinks....
Truly though, it was super beautiful, the false creek setting couldn't be more striking. They will get an awesome view of downtown against the mountains. The buildings are great, very nicely done - the lanscaping, the waterfront paths, the pavilions, retail spaces, all . We got to have a look at one of the condos, and I would love to live there. Probably pretty pricey though...
I must admit, if I wasn't very into the Olympics-hype beforehand, I am pretty excited now. Thanks Elisabeh!

You drank the cool aid.
Admittedly the area down by the water is beautiful. The walkway around Falsecreek is well designed and makes the stroll that much better. I am still unsure of the price that we are all going to pay the Olympic Vending Machine for the cool aid it serves.
What? 20years of taxes is nothing for that sweaet vitamin-water-bar!
