Back together and back in love!

Today, my bike and I got back together. I had been neglecting her for a while lately, I had to kinda break up with her, as she might have been partly causing my leg issues. So I decided that we needed to take a bit of a break. But I was feeling guilty, I hadn't taken out her on an outside date, in about two weeks, I only had little morning dates with her on my trainer. But today the Pink Beauty (not to be confused with the Black Beauty!) and I had a great time!

This morning, I was pretty much going to give my bike another excuse, and bail. I have been avoiding getting out there on my bike, there have been a few reasons... really tired, lots to do at work, so really tired, just sick of spending every weekend on my bike, running injury may be not healing because of too much biking, and we got married.

So this morning, as I sat watching soccer early with Colin, I said "I think I may just not bike, and maybe go to a water polo scrimmage instead."
"You should just get out there for like 90min and then go scrimmage after." he suggested.
"Argh, now I feel guilty if I don't bike."
"You said you're leg is getting better and that you can run without pain." Yes he was right I have been able to run 50min this week without feeling my IT band.
"What's the point? I can't race this season, I've lost too much time, and lost so much fitness." I said discouragingly.
"No way, you won't have lost hardly anything."
(Except for my running, which has been lost since February.)
"You think I could race in July?"
"Sure. If you're sure you're leg is better."

And that was all it took. You see, I had been quietly revolting from my bike. Why ride when it's all for nothing!

I took my bike out, and it kinda felt like I had taken a two week taper. I had only done some short quality trainer workouts, no big volume. I had so power, and 4 hours flew by, up Cypress, no big deal. The Pink bike and I have been together since 2007, she was a gift from Michael Bennett, who I rode for (his team Eurosports) in Ottawa for 3 years, he sponsored my races, gave me all my gear, kit, and every season he had a new bike he wanted me use for the season, he was great. Then when I decided to move out west he just gave me that last bike, which happened to my favourite. And we have spent a lot of time together, in fact we have travelled 13,717km! That's a lot of time. And she still rides perfectly.

And I thought about possible races, July 4 half ironman?? that's a bit too soon, Squamish tri? But I really wanted to do a half... what about Calgary 70.3? That's August 1... hmmm maybe.

What a wonderful tribute to an old friend. That bike just sits and waits for your to use her. I love the loyalty you described.
