The Lions

Yesterday we hiked the Lions.
Colin wanted to do something fun and so at 10am he decided we would go to Lions Bay and hike up. I am not such a "hiker", so it's not something I would ever think/ suggest to do.

One website suggested the hike takes about 7hours. Colin said it would take 5hrs... I immediately was skeptical: "Well you have to carry the gear, and we go at my pace."

It was a great day, sunny and warm. Here is a waterfall we passed about half way, before it got too tough, and it did get tough!

Break time: I had us stop about every 30min. It was steady, challenging uphill slog. It was still pretty easy here, as Colin still had his walking stick.

Here we crossed a little bridge:

Almost there... however the climb's last hour is really tough, scrambling, hands down crawling...

After a long, head down, grabbing onto roots and rocks to keep from rolling down backwards, the trees thinned, and there was snow!

We took a little wrong turn off the main path and had to scrape our way through bush and climb up rocks carefully... but we made it to the first peak stop...

Behind me, is the last part of the final climb, but it was all snow and too slippery and treacherous to do. I was fine with stopping, I was tired! 2 and half hours of constant climbing, felt like I was riding up Cypress, I could see why cyclists take up extreme hiking on their off seasons!

We're happy now, but there was 2 hours of descending ahead of us. Going down was harder, my legs felt wobbly, and with every step down I was sure my leg would give out, the muscles were that tired!
